FAMILIAR: CREEPER SCULPTURE

This was a project of experience for me; growing up, experiencing life, and learning to sew felt like it all came to this very creation of the “creeper” mob in minecraft. I know that sounds funny but I hold everything with sentiment, often creating with it as well. The 2 day process of making this project just felt so unreal, it felt like I was in the same room as the kid I once was.
Minecraft was the most life changing game and ahead of it’s time that it feels like it was the root of where this era is now. That game was genius and enabled me and many other creative souls, so I thought I would make this as an homage to it.
The design choice of making it entirely of patchwork was to symbolize the importance of keeping your youthful self in tact. The bittersweet story of age & human experience often leads to the loss of your younger self; lose sight of your younger self and you might find yourself lost. forever. The melancholy stance and the eerie look on it’s face goes further into this notion.
WORLD: Familiars are a tangible expression of the times before, reminding the people to study what their younger-self
stood for and believed in so much.

zipper on the bottom of the base for adjustable stuffing
shoulder-strap on the back if you’d like to wear it (i’d love to see someone carrying this around, placing it next to them as they sit around, it would bring so much memory and thoughts to the people around and people would love to talk to you about it)
